Lee and the Dragonaires performs at the
GUYANA AWARDS (CANADA) GALA
Byron Lee and the Dragonaires will be coming directly from Jamaica to participate in the celebrations. This event will commence at 6.00 p.m. with a cocktail reception followed by dinner and the awards ceremony, then dancing to the music of Bryon Lee until 1.30 a.m. There will be door prizes including air tickets to Guyana.
Celebrate with the "Who's Who" in the Guyanese and Toronto community including several dignitaries, government officials, members of the Toronto diplomatic Corps, past award recipients and representatives of Guyanese businesses and professionals. The Guyana Awards Gala is the premiere event in the Guyanese Community and officially kicks off the annual Cross Canada Guyana Independence celebrations. The celebrations concludes with the Guyana Festival (June 20-22) and includes over 40 activities in 5 provinces.
The Guyana Awards (Canada) recognizes the contributions of individuals and organizations in the Guyanese community toward the promotion and development of Guyana, Guyanese Heritage and Culture in Canada as well as the achievement of excellence by community organizations and distinguished individuals. Awards will be presented in ten categories and nominations are currently being processed for final selection by a panel of distinguished judges.
The Guyana Awards Council (Canada) will also be awarding several monetary Scholarships to students of Guyanese heritage who are currently enrolled at an accredited Canadian college or university.
The Charity of Choice for 2008 is Global Partnership for Literacy, a Canadian-based not-for-profit organization involved in the computerization of schools in Guyana.
Tickets are available at $120 per person and can also be bought by tables of ten.
